Thermodynamic picture of the glassy state

A picture for thermodynamics of the glassy state is introduced. It assumes that one extra parameter, the effective temperature, is needed to describe the glassy state. This explains the classical paradoxes concerning the Ehrenfest relations and the Prigogine-Defay ratio. As a second part, the approach connects the response of macroscopic observables to a field change with their temporal fluctua...

Boulware state in exactly solvable models of 2D dilaton gravity

We discuss self-consistent geometries and behavior of dilaton in exactly solvable models of 2D dilaton gravity, with quantum fields in the Boulware state. If the coupling H(φ) between curvature and dilaton φ is non-monotonic, backreaction can remove the classical singularity. As a result, an everywhere regular star-like configuration may appear, in which case the Boulware state, contrary to exp...

Exactly Solvable Models of Generalized Spin Ladders

We study S = 1 2 spin ladder systems with isotropic exchange interactions between spins on neighboring rungs. We show that a ladder with suitable diagonal and biquadratic interactions is integrable in the sense that the quantum Yang-Baxter equation holds and one has an infinite number of conserved quantities. We give the R-matrix and L-operator associated with the ladder model. The model can be...

Exactly Solvable Models of Baryon Structure

We present a qualitative analysis of the gross features of baryon spec-troscopy (masses and form factors) in terms of various exactly solvable models. It is shown that a collective model, in which baryon resonances are interpreted as rotations and vibrations of an oblate symmetric top, provides a good starting point for a more detailed quantitative study.
